چکیده

Halpern and Pearl introduced a definition of actual causality; Eiter and Lukasiewicz showed that computing whether X = x is a cause of Y = y is NP-complete in binary models (where all variables can take on only two values) and Σ2 -complete in general models. In the final version of their paper, Halpern and Pearl slightly modified the definition of actual cause, in order to deal with problems pointed out by Hopkins and Pearl. As we show, this modification has a nontrivial impact on the complexity of computing whether ~ X = ~x is a cause of Y = y. To characterize the complexity, a new family D k , k = 1, 2, 3, . . ., of complexity classes is introduced, which generalizes the class D introduced by Papadimitriou and Yannakakis (D is just D 1 ).We show that the complexity of computing causality under the updated definition is D 2 -complete. Chockler and Halpern extended the definition of causality by introducing notions of responsibility and blame, and characterized the complexity of determining the degree of responsibility and blame using the original definition of causality. Here, we completely characterize the complexity using the updated definition of causality. In contrast to the results on causality, we show that moving to the updated definition does not result in a difference in the complexity of computing responsibility and blame.

Optimized computational Afin image algorithm using combination of update coefficients and wavelet packet conversion

Updating Optimal Coefficients and Selected Observations Affine Projection is an effective way to reduce the computational and power consumption of this algorithm in the application of adaptive filters. On the other hand, the calculation of this algorithm can be reduced by using subbands and applying the concept of filtering the Set-Membership in each subband. Considering these concepts, the fir...

On the computational complexity of finding a minimal basis for the guess and determine attack

Guess-and-determine attack is one of the general attacks on stream ciphers. It is a common cryptanalysis tool for evaluating security of stream ciphers. The effectiveness of this attack is based on the number of unknown bits which will be guessed by the attacker to break the cryptosystem. In this work, we present a relation between the minimum numbers of the guessed bits and uniquely restricted...

Complexity Results for Structure-Based Causality

We analyze the computational complexity of causal relationships in Pearl’s structural models, where we focus on causality between variables, event causality, and probabilistic causality. In particular, we analyze the complexity of the sophisticated notions of weak and actual causality by Halpern and Pearl. In the course of this, we also prove an open conjecture by Halpern and Pearl, and establi...

Sweep Line Algorithm for Convex Hull Revisited

Convex hull of some given points is the intersection of all convex sets containing them. It is used as primary structure in many other problems in computational geometry and other areas like image processing, model identification, geographical data systems, and triangular computation of a set of points and so on. Computing the convex hull of a set of point is one of the most fundamental and imp...

The Impact of the Economic Complexity Index on Competitiveness: A Study of Selected Emerging Countries

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between economic complexity and competitiveness using panel data in a sample of 39 emerging countries from 2002 to 2018. The results of the causality test of Dmitresco and Horlin Granger (2012) show a two-way cause between economic complexity and competitiveness. This indicates that the higher complexity of the economy helps coun...

Fast Intra Mode Decision for Depth Map coding in 3D-HEVC Standard

three dimensional- high efficiency video coding (3D-HEVC) is the expanded version of the latest video compression standard, namely high efficiency video coding (HEVC), which is used to compress 3D videos. 3D videos include texture video and depth map. Since the statistical characteristics of depth maps are different from those of texture videos, new tools have been added to the HEVC standard fo...
